About the NVIDIA H100 80GB
The NVIDIA H100 is the flagship GPU of the Hopper architecture, released in 2022 and still the de facto standard for large-scale AI training and fine-tuning in 2026. Built on TSMC's 4N process with 80 billion transistors, it offers 3× the AI training performance of its predecessor (A100) and remains the most-requested GPU for frontier model work.

What's it good for?
- Training LLMs 13B–70B — fine-tuning and full pretraining of frontier models.
- Large-batch inference — serving Llama 3 70B, Qwen 72B, Mistral Large.
- Multi-modal training — vision-language models, video generation.
- Distributed training — 8× H100 clusters via NVLink for trillion-parameter work.
When to use H100 vs alternatives
- H100 vs A100 80GB: H100 is ~2-3× faster for training. If your workload runs > 4 hours, the speed-up usually pays for the price premium.
- H100 vs H200: H200 has 141 GB memory (vs 80) and slightly faster bandwidth. Worth it for models that don't fit in 80GB.
- H100 vs B200: B200 (Blackwell, 2024) is the newer generation — 2.5× H100 performance but ~3× the price. Only worth it for the largest training runs.
